The Lakes consists of well over 1000, largely interconnected lakes enticing you to explore through history with nature by your side. The banks of the waterways are fringed by forests, meadows and marshes. Nature dominates the landscape, but surprisingly there is a well developed infrastructure in the region. Plauer lake, Fleesensee, Kölpinsee and the queen of all German lakes - the Müritz - form the Mecklenburg Upper Lakes. Each of these four lakes is impressive due to their majestic size and are known as the blue quartet. They are at 62 metres above sea level.
There are no locks and only a few bridges making this an ideal area for houseboats.
The Potsdamer Havel has many mooring facilities. There are no more mooring facilities for the rest of the entire Mecklenburg and Märkischen waters. Boaters are welcome everywhere. The lakes of the Potsdamer Havel are beautiful, but don't forget to visit Potsdam with its many castles and estates.
