Hafendorf Müritz: in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District
Bright yellow fields, dark green tree-lined roads and shimmering waterways; the lakes and rivers in Mecklenburg, Brandenburg and Berlin offer splendid cruising in one of the finest watersports regions in Europe. Excellent fishing, canoeing in the many little brooks and other activities include shopping in Berlin and Schwerin, eating out, watching wildlife, swimming and sunbathing.
Landscape
The Mecklenburg Lakes consist of an area of over 100 lakes; most of them are interconnected and the shores are covered with woods, meadows and moors. There is some good infrastructure for visitors, however nature abounds in this region and has remained fairly untouched, able to shelter many colonies of rare aquatic wildlife. To the south of the Müritz, small, deep groove-lakes, round flat-lakes and short canals present a water-sportsman’s paradise, rarely seen in Europe.

The Great Lakes
The largest of the Great Lakes is the Müritz. At the south-eastern shore lies our base Hafendorf Müritz, home to a large number of our boats. The Lakes Fleesensee, Kölpinsee and Plauer See are also part of the Great Lakes, sometimes called the upper lakes due to their higher elevation.
Röbel is one of the most attractive towns to visit around the Müritz due to its historic town-centre. It is located in a sheltered bay with plenty of marinas and harbours. Make sure you climb up the church tower as the panorama of the Müritz from the top is well worth the effort. Right across from Röbel at the eastern shore is the Bolter Canal, ideal for nature-lovers. The short canal is tunneled in verdant green foliage.
To the north of the lake lies Waren, the largest town around the Müritz. Enjoy a casual stroll around the town to appreciate its framework-houses, restaurants and shops. The centre of Waren is only a couple of minutes from the marina. From Waren on to the west, you will soon reach Malchow with its old cloister. Visit the organ museum and the museum exhibiting items from the former GDR.
Another short voyage will take you to Plau with its picturesque centre. From the harbour it is only a few minutes walk to the market-square and the main road where you will find interesting shops and restaurants. After you have passed the hold movable bridge, you will be on the canalized part of the Müritz-Elde-Waterway, meandering through some very nice areas of Mecklenburg towards Schwerin and Dömitz.
