Boating without previous knowledge (home country regulation)

Without yachting licence: crew on the Müritz

Whilst on most of the French waterways and on the Mazurian lakes in Poland you can go boating without a boat driving licence Germany has a number of fairly specific rules:

Rule 1:

If you are required in your home country to have a licence to drive a boat then the same applies in Germany – i.e you need a boat driving licence.

Rule 2

There are some areas where a licence is NOT needed (Regardless of whether a licence is required in your home country) – these are indicated on the map below. Any boat that is in our fleet can be driven in these destinations without a licence.

Our base Zeuthen is located in a “licence required” area (See Rule 1) however the area that includes South of Berlin does NOT require a licence. If you wish to cruise this area and do NOT have a licence it is easy for us to place an instructor on board who drives you to the Neue Mühle lock or to the Lake Seddinsee. He also provides hints and tips en-route. (Once again see Rule1 for this area.)
