South of the Müritz the "Kleinseenplatte" begins, the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District. The last ice age left over 300 lakes in this area, some of them with natural connections. Narrow, deep trough lakes, circular shallow lakes and short sting canals form a water sports paradise, which is unique in Europe. Sometimes, because of the heavily vegetated environment, you can see the connecting canal from one lake to the next, only if you are already very close.
