With the houseboat towards the Spreewald

 The countryside and the waters southeast of Berlin are surrounded by lakes. The Dahme Köpenick flows into the River Spree and Berlin slowly disappears. 

Continue along the Spree-Oder waterway, via Eisenhüttenstadt and you will reach the border between Poland and Germany. Since 2008 there are no border controls anymore. Sand banks and groynes shape the riverside going to the twin cities of Frankfurt / Slubice. The city has much to offer for young and old alike and is worth a visit.

On the Warta River Estuary at Kiistrin, the Oder flows through natural floodplains and some riverside forests. In Hohensaaten the waterway leads you to Szczecin Lagoon or you turn west before, towards Berlin or Müritz.

At the city boundary of Berlin the Dahme-chain of lakes begins in the south. The green shores of Lake Zeuthen and Sellzugsee hide the King's palace in Wusterhausen. One of the most beautiful tributaries of the Spree are the Rüdersdorfer waters with their clear lakes - an ideal bathing area with densely wooded banks.

At Prieros every boat crew has to decide: Go right to the quiet waters of Teupitz or left towards Storkow where you can cross several lakes and canals lined with water lilies. Eventually you will reach Fontanes Markische sea, the Scharmutzelsee, and the spa town of Bad Saarow. 

Since the reunification, this waterway region became increasingly popular. A charter license is all that is required. 

Where Berlin stops in Schmoeckwitz, the Spree-Oder waterway from the Dahme separates. After a break in Seddinsee it comes from the lock Wernsdorf on Channel Drive to the east. Fürstenwalde with its five hundred year old cathedral and the many games and fun activities for children is a worthwhile stopover on the way to the Spreewald. At Neuhauser you can quickly go to the next chain of lakes, leading to Schwieloch in Lower Lusatia. This lake has little traffic because the lake has no onward lakes and is a turnaround point. Schwieloch has a good infrastructure of ports and places to visit.
